Johnny Depp: Oh yeah. Second, third, fourth thoughts…
David Letterman: How did these concerns on their part manifest themselves?
Johnny Depp: Well they start with phone calls, frantic.
David Letterman: What were they nervous about?
Johnny Depp: They didn’t know what I was doing exactly. They were concerned that I was, I think in their words, ruining the movie. Something subtle like that.
David Letterman: They didn’t understand your portrayal?
Johnny Depp: Basically what it got down to was, what is he doing? We can’t understand what he’s saying. We don’t understand a word he’s saying. Is he drunk? Are you drunk? Is he gay? And then, of course, are you gay?
